ABOUT THE PROJECT

By asking what if questions, we approached this project through thinking about how the meanings of food consumption are different between the past and present, and what shaped those changes. The meanings of food consumption are changed based on the changes of the social environments in the future.

We decided to amplify the current issues originated from the social and natural environment. By addressing on the capitalist mode of production and plastic pollution, we imagined a world where food consumption is dramatically changed from past centuries. The meanings such as appreciation of foods and consolidation of human relationships are losing. We imagined that under this social context, people started a green movement against the system they are in. Thus, this design critically reflected on the current as well as possible issues regarding food consumption in the future.

Instead of using plastic cutlery, people adopted edible cutlery that is made of renewable food wastes via bio printing.  This is also an advocate for against the overproduction of foods and plastic usage in the fast food industries and a hope that returning to the traditional way of food consumption.

IDEATION

- What if people don’t need to rush when eating

- What if people could actually sit and enjoy a meal in the daily life

- What if food consumption is not only just nutrition consumption

- What if food consumption has an actual meaning

- What if there’s less fast foods

- What if there’s less food wastes

- What if there’s no plastic products being used on earth

- What if there’s alternative materials to replace plastic cutlery

- What if there renewable food wastes could be reused
